Jackie Barrett aka JackiB is a native of Hampton VA and a retired school teacher of the Newport News Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Norfolk State University and a Masters Degree in Computer Education from Hampton University. She has been a member since 1997 at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple (SMZBT) in Hampton VA – Jerome A. Barber, Pastor and has served in various ministry/leadership capacities. She was the lead coordinator for their Annual Worship In Motion Conference from 2003 – 2012. As a member of the SMZBT EdYOUcarers Ministry, JackiB traveled to Nairobi, Kenya (East Africa) conducting teacher workshops and seminars from 2001-2009 in the village of Kangemi (the 2nd largest slum area in Nairobi). Her heart’s desire is to return to Kenya to evangelize and proclaim the Name of Jesus through the ministry of motion.
JackiB serves on the Executive Board of the International Dance Commission (IDC) as the Community Outreach Initiatives/Food Drive Coordinator, VA State and Hampton Roads Area Coordinator and is co-leader of the IDC East Region Global Missions.
In October 2013, JackiB stepped out on faith and responded to God’s calling to return to Kenya -- a vision for global worship. She organized a team of 10 ministers of motion (USA Kangemi Worship Team of 9 females, 1 male) for a 7-day missions trip to proclaim the gospel through a visual demonstration of worship in motion for youth, women and men, a ladies workshop, classroom observations, and health awareness.
JackiB facilitated (along with 3 mission team members) the first movement workshop for the 2014 National African American Missions Conference in Vienna, VA. In October 2014, she returned to the missions field with a team of six (6) ministers of motion and also partnered with the Missions for East Africa Team of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Herndon VA, for a 10-day workshop continuing the work begun in 2013. In November 2015, she leads her 3rd missions team of six (6) to Nairobi Kenya for a 15-day workshop as presenters for five (5) church conferences, street evangelism and works with their global partners at a children’s orphanage. In November 2016, she led her 4th mission team of five (5) to various areas of Nairobi for 12-days conducting a women’s meeting, ministry training for pastors wives/women leaders and a fitness/wellness day for two (2) orphanages.
JackiB serves as Board secretary for Menchville House Ministries, Inc., -- a 501(c)3 emergency housing facility for homeless families. She is the community outreach advisory board member/instructor for OSHER Life Long Learning Institute (College of Education and Continuing Studies) at Hampton University – Hampton VA. She serves on the Board of Directors for various non-profit organizations both local and global. In October 2016, she became the CEO/Executive Director of a state incorporated organization named – Diversified Ministry for Cultural Exchange, Inc., whose mission is to address, educate, coordinate, and provide aid and relief to eradicate poverty, sickness, depression, illiteracy, tribal war, and the mistreatment of women/girls on a local/global level through the arts, teaching, preaching, pastoral care, and counseling.
JackiB introduced her first book - “Missions 101 – for Ministers of Motion” at the Worship on Washington – Dancing Preachers International 2016.
She believes in being in the game to make a change – Be a Game-Changer! Only when we are changed can we be agents of change.
